Many of you who follow my blog know about the passing of my son, Peyton Moore (June 4, 2013).

He was my inspiration and the love of my life...

Because my wife Jennifer and my son allowed me to share our lives so openly, many of you have come to know them from my posts, pictures and videos.

I do not have the words to express my grief, nor would I ever try to express my wife's feelings. I can only say that right now our world has been turned upside down and we are devastated.

My friends and family have given us so much love and support.

The running community has been more than amazing. We are so grateful to the Charleston Running Club for hosting Peyton's reception and to all the runners coming out in force to honor my son this past Sunday for a group run with my Couch to 5K runners.

We were so honored to have the Marines as Peyton's pallbearers and overwhelmed by the unbelievable escort and honors given to our son by all the Law Enforcement community.

Thank you to the thousands of people who have written, called, and showered us with love and support.

I do not know where my life will be led from this point, but I will do everything in my power to honor my beautiful, sweet, caring boy.

He was our miracle, our love, our angel...

Peyton taking advantage of all the race perks
This past Saturday I ran the Charlie Post Classic 15K and actually set a new PR.  The odd thing is that I had a lot left in the tank.

I absolutely love this race.  It's put on by the Charleston Running Club and it is just one of the best long time races around (30 years).  This year the race was even designated at the USATF 15K SC State Championship.

It was really cool to see so many of the top local and regional runners show up for this race. I also loved that so many of my friends, my wife (WTF) and my son were running the race.  In addition, I was joined by several of my co workers (one ran his first 15K and another one set a 5K PR and won second in her age group)!

This was my third time running the race.  In 2010 I ran it in 1:18:48.  It was poring down rain and the streets were flooded.  It was so much fun!  At the 2011 race I was sick as a dog and just dragged myself through the race (1:21:21).  I still loved it.  Last year I was cheering on my Couch to 5K group so I didn't get to run the race (but it was awesome anyway!).

My running family!
So this year I was trying to figure out what pace I wanted to run the race.  I just ran the Charleston Marathon last Saturday so I was not sure how my legs were going to hold up.  15K (9.3 miles) really is an odd distance, so its not like I run it all the time.  I've also been running a lot of other long distance races and trail races so it was hard figuring out my pace.

I decided I wanted to try to set a new PR so I would need to run somewhere between an 8:10-8:20 pace.  I figured that would get me under my old PR and it was doable, unless my legs just felt too tired.

The Charlie Post Classic is a 5K and 15K so everyone starts together (600-800 people).  I was feeling pretty good and all the 5K runners took off so I started off a little faster than I planned.

My awesome co workers!
I ended up running with a friend of mine (Steve G.) who is older than me, but much faster and the pace seemed okay (under 8:00).  We talked for a few minutes and then he moved on, but I maintain the pace.  I was feeling good and just decided to see how things went.

I took my time at mile five (I had a gel and grabbed some water).  But even with that slower mile, I averaged 8:04 for the whole race.

When I crossed the finish line, the clock read 1:15:10.  I was stoked that I had set a new PR

The weird thing was that I felt like I could have run much faster.  I mean, I was not even winded and my legs felt great.

Maybe I've gained more speed than I thought.  I might just have to go out and find a 5K to race!
