Treadmill Speed Work

Not that I have completely changed my mind about hating treadmills, but I have found a workout that is perfect for the treadmill.
This workout is on my schedule courtesy of Coach Greg.

The paces I am showing are for me (because I don’t know you and don’t know how fast you run)…

10 @ 10:00

20 @ 8:13

10 @ 10:00

20 @ 8:13

10 @ 10:00

So you start out with a warm up for ten minutes at a 10:00 pace (that’s 6.0 on the treadmill). Speed up to 8:13 pace (that’s about 7.3 on the treadmill) for twenty minutes and keep rotating until you are done. This is great speed work and is perfect for those crazy hot days that you just cannot get it together to go outside and run fast.

There is a variation of this work out that I did yesterday:

10 @ 10:00

30 @ 8:13

10 @ 10:00

The thirty minutes in the middle was tough, but manageable. If you have been running in the heat at all, this workout is going to feel even better. You will get to see just how much faster you can run inside where it’s nice and cool (unless your air conditioning is broken or your treadmill is outside – then it’s going to suck).
